Sculpture at Bathers 2015

This work was installed at Bathers Beach in Fremantle as part of the exhibition, Sculpture at Bathers 2015. I reused an old work in order to engage with the public. The work incorporated various materials collected from demolition sites. People could peer in through the sculpture to see the debris together with drawings and paintings. The public was also encouraged to mark the outside of the sculpture. My intention was to facilitate a discussion about form, material and community, and to have fun.

This work was developed during a three month residency with Residencia Corazon. This residency space is based in La Plata, about 40 minutes south of Buenos Aires. The work considered information evident in the city such as graffiti and architectural forms, particularly the relationship between the older houses with the newer, encroaching apartment blocks.

This work is from Edith Cowan University's 2010 Visual Arts graduate exhibition, titled 2:1. My work was titled Transition and re-used steel objects and materials from my job in demolition. These objects and materials, taken from demolition sites around Perth, were transformed into abstract forms, patinas and patterns. The work dealt with ideas about form, material and space.
